While cabinets are very useful and can add beauty to your home, certain types of cabinets can be more difficult to maintain. With the right type of cabinet, you will spend less time cleaning and will spend less money on cleaners.

Choose a Simple Style

Choose cabinets that have a minimal style. More complex cabinets can have nooks and crannies that often attract dust and dirt. Shaker-style cabinets are a type that is much easier to clean. Also, if you add a glaze to your cabinet, this will better cover up the dust and dirt.

Stain Your Cabinets

Painted cabinets can make them easier to clean, but a well-sealed stain will make the cleaning job even easier. You will find it much easier to see splatters and dirt. All of this will be much easier to clean up.

Pick a Dark Grain

Choose a grain that has a dark stain. These types of grains do not show scratches, crumbs, and stains. Clean wood species, in contrast, show stains much more readily.

Choose Flush Cabinet Ends

Flush cabinet ends are much easier to clean because it has a smooth end and corners. It does not have the type of protrusions that make the cabinet more difficult to clean. In contrast, the 3D or raised panel design is much more difficult to clean.

Select Laminate Cabinets

Laminate cabinets can look just like real wood but are easier to clean than the real thing. Also, laminate wood does not have the same tendency to warp and stain like real wood. The cabinets should be washed with warm water and soap, but do not require any other special treatments.

Choose Laminate Over Wood

Rather than having to paint a wood cabinet door, you can choose a laminate cabinet door that is already a particular color. The most common colors chosen for laminate cabinet doors is white. These types of doors are more likely to show fingerprints and dirt, but you'll also have an easier time finding where you need to clean your cabinets.

Invest in Good Hardware

Use door pulls and knobs rather than simply opening the cabinet by pulling on the door. Pulls and knobs make it unnecessary to place your hands on the hardware. Do not use stainless steel or chrome hardware because they tend to show fingerprints and water spots. The best options are polished nickel, brushed nickel, satin bronze, oil-rubbed bronze, and white hardware.
